PAGE 10 MUNCIE EVENING PRESS, MONDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1977 Obituaries Mabel Hale Mrs. Mabel Hale, 85, formerly of Cowan, died Saturday in the Riverview Convalescent Center. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Parson Mortuary, the Rev. Howard Welches officiating.

Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Mrs. Hale lived at Cowan for 47 years and was a retired employee of the Barefoot Poultry Co.

She was a Kokomo native and recently had resided in Hartford City. She was a member of the Luray Nazarene Church and its Eddie Rickenbacker prayer band. Surviving are a son, Delbert 0. Hale Muncie; two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Weems, Hartford City, and Mrs.

Madonna Wolfe, Muncie; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Robinson, Kokomo, and Mrs. Mildred Nixon, Oakville: 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren and 13 step-great- grandchildren. Maurine Gray MIDDLETOWN Services for Mrs. Maurine M.

Gray, 81, RR 1, Middletown, who died Sunday at Ball Hospital, Muncie, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Main and Frame Funeral Home, New Castle, Rev. Richard Christopher officiating. Burial will be in Lewisville Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gray was a native of Henry County and was a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Best and Mrs. Thomas (Martha) Smith, both of Middletown; six grandchildren and seven great-grandsons; one sister, Mrs.

Susan Hodson, New Castle, and three brothers, Dwight A. Shepherd and Horace (Pete) Shepherd, both of New Castle, and Robert M. Shepherd, Bradenton, Fla. Arthur Robinson HARTFORD CITY Arthur A. Robinson, 69, of Hartford City was found dead at his home Friday.

He was apparently the victim of a heart attack. Mr. Robinson was a native of Warsaw and a retired employee of Warner Gear at Muncie. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the DAV Lodge.

His wife, Marie, died Sept. 29. Survivors include three sons, Gene L. and Kenneth Robinson, both of Hartford City, and John Robinson, Anderson; four stepchildren, Mrs. Marilyn Cook and Charles D.

Stegall both of Hartford City, Mrs. Jacqueline Oswalt, Muncie, and John M. Stegall, Garden Grove, a brother, David Robinson, Shelbyville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the Keplinger Funeral Home, the Rev.

Paul Channels officiating. Burial was to be in the 100F Cemetery. Maudie Chalfant Private services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gardens of Memory Chapel for Maudie V. Chalfant, 76, who died Sunday at the Delaware County Nursing Home following a long illness.

Mrs. Chalfant' was a lifetime Muncie resident, attended Cowan High School and formerly worked at Murphy's Grocery. She was a member of the New Burlington United Methodist Church and Whitney Chapter 564 of the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are one son, Robert N. Chalfant, Clearwater, a daughter, Mrs.

Wallace (Phyllis) Kiser, rural Muncie; a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Roberta) Janney, Winchester, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory. The Parson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent to the Delaware County Cancer Society, New Burlington United Methodist Church or Grace Baptist Church.

Francis Fred Services for Francis L. Fred, 77, 624 W. 10th, who died Friday in Westminster Village Health Center, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Meeks Mortuary, Rev. Collins Glenn officiating.

Burial will be in Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville. Friends may call at the mortuary from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and prior to services Tuesday. Mr. Fred was born in Fortville, graduated from high school there, and came to Muncie as a young man.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Local 287, UAW. She was also a member of the Ball Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and at one time was a volunteer worker in the chaplain's office at the hospital. Mrs. Fruit is survived by 1 her daughter. Mrs. Rex (Maryln Hartley) Stiffler, Muncie, with whom she made her home prior to entering the nursing home; her brother, Arthur Brindel, Greensburg; four stepdaughters.

Mrs. Doris Adams, Mrs. Mary Feeney and Mrs. Wanetta Langdon, all of Muncie, and Mrs. Helen Hickman, Dunkirk; five stepsons, Warren, Fruit, Memphis, Robert Redkey; Charles Fruit, Selma, Harold Fruit, Parker, and Don Fruit, Muncie; two granddaughters; several stepgranddaughters and step -grandsons and several great grandchildren.

Dr. Robert G. Sulanke will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

today and prior to services Tues- Lewis Riggs HARTFORD CITY Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Keplinger Funeral Home for Lewis R. Riggs, 51, of Hartford City who died at his residence Saturday. He had been in failing health the past three years. A Wells County native, Mr.

Riggs lived in Hartford City for 25 years and was a retired employee of Hartford Concrete Products Inc. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Wilma: his father, LaVere Riggs, Keystone; five children, Ronald, Fort Wayne, Lynn, Muncie, Kim, San Diego, and Les and Amy, both at home; two brothers, Paul, Montpelier, and Robert, Poneto; and two sisters, Mrs. Betty Barton, Marion, and Mrs. Barbara Woolard, Hartford City.

Rev. Rex Lindemood will officiate. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery in Wells County with military graveside services. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening. Florence Wedding Services for Florence Long Wedding, 97, 2008 Alden, who died Sunday at home, will be at 2 p.m.

Tuesday in the First United Presbyterian Church, Dr. Laurence A. Martin officiating. Callers will be received 30 minutes prior to services. Mrs.

Wedding, the widow of Harry S. Wedding, who died in 1929, was born in Crawfordsville and lived there and in Indianapolis before coming to Muncie in 1956. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and the Flower Mission of the church and United Presbyterian Women. She was formerly a member of the Business and Professional Women at Indianapolis. Survivors are two sons, Gordon 0.

Wedding, Muncie, and Robert Wedding, Franklin; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the First United Presbyterian Church, 1400 Riverside. Meeks Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Nellie Wood MOORELAND Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Main and Frame Funeral Home here for Nellie M.

Wood, 80, Mooreland. She died Sunday at Henry County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. A native of Henry County, Mrs. Wood was a member of the North Christian Church. Surviving are her son, Glen Wood, Mooreland; two grandsons and four great-granddaughters; two sisters, Mrs.

Edna Lunsford and Mrs. Ida Butler, both of New Castle, and one brother, Howard Jester, New Castle. Rev. Larry Schmittler will officiate at the services, with assistance from Rev. John Marchack.

Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home were set for 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Margaret Stevenson Services were conducted today in the Meeks Mortuary for Margaret Collins Stevenson, 69, 303 S. Bittersweet.

The services were originally scheduled for Friday, but were postponed due to inclement weather. Rev. Dan Mattox officiated. Burial was in Sunderland Cemetery. Mrs.

Stevenson, widow of William H. Stevenson, died last Wednesday at Ball Hospital. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Mortuary for Kenneth Girton, 67, Yorktown, day at Community Hospital in Indianapolis. Mr.

Girton graduated from Saratoga High School and lived in Portland, Sturgis and Battle Creek, and Leesburg, before coming to York- Kenneth Girton Girton conducted at in the Meeks L. (Dutch) who died Fri- town two months ago. He worked as a linotype operator for 45 years. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1703 in Leesburg, Knights of Pythias and the International Typographical Union. Surviving are his wife, Hanna Thornton Girton; his son, Melvyn Girton, Yorktown; two granddaughters and a brother, Harold Girton, Saratoga.

Rev. Alan Byrne, pastor of the College Avenue United Methodist Church, will officiate at the services. Cremation will follow. There will be no calling hours. Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.

Lavinia Lawton Services for Mrs. Lavinia M. Lawton, 76, 611 N. Eastwood, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Parson Mortuary with burial in the Gardens of Memory.

She died Saturday at Ball Hospital. Mrs. Lawton was a native of Woodford County, but was a Muncie resident most of her life. She attended Shawnee Heights Baptist Church and was a former employee of Durham Manufacturing and Ball Corp. Surviving are two sons, Herschel Lawton, Muncie, and Eugene Lawton, Bartlett, three sisters, Mrs.

Edna Atkins, Muncie, Mrs. Dorothy Cheek, Waddy, and Mrs. Nellie Atwell, Frankfort, a stepbrother, Paul Williamson, Piqua, Ohio; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 o'clock this evening and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Robert Farabee GAS CITY Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Jones Mortuary, Upland, for Robert Farabee, 52, of Gas City. Burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery. Mr. Farabee was found dead in his car Friday as the result of an apparent heart attack suffered after shoveling snow.

He was a native of Ona, Fla. and a member of the Gas City VFW. He was a veteran of World War II and had been employed at Owens-Illinois for 22 years. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Minnie Farabee, Upland, and three sisters, Mrs.

Julia Deeter and Mrs. Flossie Morris, both of Upland and Mrs. Joyce Clark, Hartford City. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. Ivy Tech extends its evening registration Gerald Coates WINCHESTER Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday in the Shaffer Funeral Home for Gerald Edgar Coates, 75, of Winchester, who died Saturday in the Randolph County Home. Burial will be in Saratoga Cemetery. Mr. Coates was a member of the American Legion and was a retired body repairman at the Ford garage in Winchester. Surviving are a son, Frederick E.

Coates, Largo, and one grandchild. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 o'clock tonight. Oliver Duncan Services will be held in Whiteley City, for Oliver Duncan, 51, 542. S. Gharkey, who died Saturday of an apparent heart attack.

A native of Kentucky, Mr. Duncan moved to Muncie in the early 1950s and was employed at Chevrolet-Muncie for 24 years where he was a member of the Sympathy Club. Surviving are his wife, Monnie King; two daughters, Dora Mae Musgrove, Muncie, and Vada Duncan, Kentucky; a son, Estol, Kentucky; his mother, Mrs. Sylvania Duncan, Kentucky; three brothers, Arville, Theodore, and Herman, all of Kentucky; three sisters, Mary Austin, Maxine Bolen, and Genevia, all of Ohio; and several grandchildren. Local arrangements are being handled by the Conrad Piepho Funeral Home.

Alma Letch UPLAND Mrs. Alma C. Letch, 84, of Upland, died Friday at Marion General Hospital. Services were conducted Sunday in the Jones Mortuary, Rev. Michael Hopper officiating.

Burial was in Wilson Cemetery at Reed City, Mich. Mrs. Letch was a native of Reed City and resided in the Detroit area most of her life. She moved to Upland two years ago. She attended the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Irma) Newman of Upland; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Glenda Stiens LYNN Services were conducted this morning for Mrs. Glenda M. Stiens, 61, of north of Lynn who died Saturday at Randolph County Hospital.

Burial was in Buena Vista Cemetery. Mrs. Stiens was a native of Centerville and a graduate of Centerville High School. She was secretary of Parmi Tool Co. Inc.

and a member of Delta Theta Tau sorority. Surviving are her husband, Robert Stiens; three nephews and a number of cousins. Ivy Tech-Region 6 will extend its registration period for its Evening Division classes in Muncie through Friday, December 16, because of class cancellations during last week's snow storm. Most of Ivy Tech's Evening Division class have met only once. Persons interested in registering for any Evening Division course should contact the Ivy TechRegion 6 Office of Student Services, 4100 Cowan Road, phone: 289-2291, on the night which the course is offered or prior to the class's meeting night.

Those classes which are available for tonight's registration are: Accounting Principles Payroll Accounting, Introduction to Business, Typing, Key Device Training, Tractor Engines, Electric Wiring Fundamentals, Audio Electronics, Heating Fundamentals and Welding. On Tuesday night, persons may register for: Business Law, Safety Regulations, Shorthand Records Management, Audio Electronics, Communications and Human Relations. Registrations are being accepted for: Techniques of Supervision, Personnel Management, Office Calculating Machines, Darkroom Techniques, Carpentry Fundamentals, Blueprint Reading, and Welding courses which meet on Wednesday evening. Olson, 72, a professor of history at the school until she retired in 1971.

Burial was in Detroit. Miss Olson, who died Friday at Marion General Hospital, was a native of Michigan and an Upland resident since 1947. From 1952-1960 she also served as registrar and director of admissions at Taylor. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hartford City; the American Historical Society; the American Association of University Women; Delta Kappa Gamma-Beta Iota Chapter and the Hostess House, all of Marion. Daisy White Mrs.

Daisy C. White, 81, 2000 S. Macedonia, died this morning in Ball Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. White was born in Jackson County and had lived in Muncie the past 55 years.

She was employed for 30 years at the Ball retiring in 1966. She was a member of the Industry United Methodist Church. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Everett (Doris) Terrell, Winchester, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Crago, Muncie and Mrs.

John (Clara) Moore and Mrs. Kenneth (Deloris) Simms, both of Farmland; two sons, Wilbur White, Eaton and John Bernard White, Muncie; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Cecil White, died in 1929. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the RohrdanHolbert Funeral Home, Wheeling Ave.

Chapel, Rev. Yung S. Chen, pastor of the Industry United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Brownstown Cemetery at Brownstown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.

Tuesday. Carolyn L. Coffey Mrs. Carolyn L. Coffey, 41, 2024 S.

Hackley, died early today at Ball Hospital after an extended illness. She was a Muncie native and lifelong resident. She was a member of the E. 18th St. Wesleyan Church and the Avondale Sympathy Club Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Bravil one son, Terry DeWayne Coffey, at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Vera) Cavanaugh and Mrs. Sam (Gladys) Howard, two brothers, Kenneth Martin and Clyde Martin all of Muncie. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Parson Mortuary, Rev.

Gilbert W. Noel officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory. Calling hours at the mortuary will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and immediately prior to services Wednesday.

Carla Phillips Services were conducted today in the Gill Funeral Home for Carla Denise Phillips, 6, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips 1024 N. Brady, who died Friday at the Arcadia Children's Home in Arcadia. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Rufus Steele Rufus C. Steele, 73, 217 S. Council, died Sunday afternoon at Ball Memorial Hospital following a to 9 stroke. He was born in Frankfort, came to Muncie as a young man and worked at Ontario, then lived in Richmand for five years during which time he was employed as a welder. Mr.

Steele returned to Muncie in 1947, was employed as a bus driver several years, and retired in 1974. He then worked at Miller's Milk House on Broadway for three years. He was a member of the Normal City United Methodist Church and the Stroke Club of Muncie. Surviving are his wife, Georgia Glass Steele; two daughters, Mrs. 'Howard (Shelby) Brown and Mrs.

Linda Wentz, both of Muncie: his sister, Mrs. Eva Stivers, Cincinnati; his brother, Jesse Steele, Lexington, and two grandsons. Services will be conducted at the Meeks Mortuary 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Jeffery Snyder, pastor of the Normal City United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Elm Ridge. Friends may call at the mortuary from 3-5 and from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and any time before the services Wednesday. Lawrence Wible MONTPELIER Services for Lawrence Jasper Wible, 65, of Montpelier, who died Saturday in Marion General Hospital, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Walker Funeral Home, Rev.
